BB-8 Robot: Sphero Star War Robot

It's a droid character in the Star Wars franchise, first appearing in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Spherical with a free-moving domed head, BB-8 is portrayed by both a rod puppet and a remote-controlled robotic unit.

TIM Robot: Train Inspection Monorail Robot

The name’s TIM, Robot TIM – meet the spy patrolling the 27-km tunnel of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). TIM, the Train Inspection Monorail, is a mini vehicle transporting a set of instruments along tracks suspended from the tunnel’s ceiling. This smart machine is used for real-time monitoring of the LHC tunnel: the tunnel structure, the oxygen percentage, the communication bandwidth and the temperature.

Valkyrie Robot: NASA's Superhero Robot

NASA’s R5 aka Valkyrie was designed and built by the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Engineering Directorate to compete in the 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) Trials. Valkyrie, a name taken from Norse mythology, is designed to be a robust, rugged, entirely electric humanoid robot capable of operating in degraded or damaged human-engineered environments.

The remotely controlled MAARS is based on a modular framework that facilitates the addition of new accessories and attachments as they become available. The key to this system is a turret system supporting a drop-in manipulator arm, multiple types of weapons and a wide range of sensor packages plus up to seven cameras with multi-modal capabilities.

Cubli Robot: A Cube that can Jump up & balance

This latest version of the Cubli can jumping up, balanc, and even “walk”. This new version is self contained with respect to power and uses three slightly modified bicycle brakes instead of the metal barriers used in the previous version. We are currently developing learning algorithms that allow the Cubli to automatically learn and adjust the necessary parameters if a jump fails due to the deterioration of the brakes and changes in inertia, weight, or slope of the surface.

Pillo Robot: A Home Health Robot

Pillo is a personal home health robot. Basically, Pillo is what happens when you combine a service like Siri with a pill dispenser. What you end up with is a robot that poops out your pills while offering medical advice.

It's a rough-terrain robot that walks, runs, climbs and carries heavy loads. BigDog is powered by an engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. BigDog has four legs that are articulated like an animal’s, with compliant elements to absorb shock and recycle energy from one step to the next.

RHex Robot: Rough-Terrain Robot

It's a six-legged robot with inherently high mobility. Powerful, independently controlled legs produce specialized gaits that devour rough terrain with minimal operator input. RHex climbs in rock fields, mud, sand, vegetation, railroad tracks, telephone poles and up slopes and stairways.

SmartBird Robot: The Bird Robot

SmartBird is a mechanical model that is able to fly by flapping its wings like a bird. It is very light but very powerful and aerodynamically efficient, so that it can take off, fly and land on its own. It was built in 2011 by Festo, a German company specializing in automation.
